MVNO Applicable to 2G + 3G Wireless Services in India
The DoT is supposed to release the Information Memorandum on 3G Auction which contains other related information as well. The Document is not yet officially released but channel sources have been leaking information. Here is one I have got just seconds ago.
In a development that will lead to further increase in already intense competition in the Indian telecom industry and also ensure that the third generation (3G) services segment too gets equally heated up, the department of telecommunications (DoT) is understood to have decided that mobile virtual network operation (MVNO) would be applicable to both 2G and 3G services.
The DoT is likely to release the official information memorandum on the 3G auction later on Tuesday which is likely to clarify the issue of MVNO. Under the MVNO regime, any company can offer telecom services without actually having any spectrum on its own. Read more
3G Auction to be HOT – Foreign telcos foray likely into 2G space as well
Government is understood to have accepted a key demand from foreign telecom operators which were looking to participate in the forthcoming third generation (3G) auction. As per a proposal from the department of telecommunications (DoT), successful foreign bidders for the 3G spectrum would also be allowed to participate in the 2G space, a condition seen necessary for overseas newcomers to pitch strongly for the race.
On the part of government, the move would ensure that there is aggressive bidding in the auction, thus ensuring good revenue generation. The government had already fixed the maximum number of players at five per circle in order to keep the supply of the coveted radio frequency limited which would ensure a fierce competition between operators looking to get a pie of the 3G market. I have version of their router which is semi-intelligent [ has some connected interactive features] However, Fonera 2.0N is much more than that and is closely mapping Web 2.0 successful applications. Read more
CII + IMRB Research – 98% YoY Broadband Growth for 5 years – 214 mn subscribers Target

If you have been regularly reading my posts on Internet and Broadband here, then I am sure you’d sense my bearish attitude towards Internet / Broadband growth [Hey!, don't blame me, it was the Netas, Babus and CEOs who were unwilling to open their eyes towards broadband service] However, after MTS deployed their 1X Advanced technology network, i got into the research mode and having gone through several reports, exchange of emails, etc I am stepping into the shoes of Broadband Bull
[This has got nothing to do with CII - IMRB report, I will write about it, in the next post] India has ~ 7 mn broadband subscribers and will fall short of the 20 mn target by 2010. Read more
