Tata Communications – VSNL-Indicom WiMax Broadband Live in Bangalore

December 20, 2007 · Filed Under Broadband, Telecom, Web

Breaking News - You are reading this first hereReliance maybe the first to launch WiMax Broadband for consumers in Bangalore, but had some issues and coverage was limited. Tata Communications [erstwhile VSNL] has launched “Limited Edition Special Offer” Indicom Wimax Broadband in Bangalore. [Yes that's right, the official launch and branding are still in pipeline].

Tata Communications WiMax Infrastructure in Bangalore:
Unlike Reliance Communications, which kicked off with less than 50 WiMax towers, Tata Communications debut will be with over 120 WiMax towers linking corners of “Namma Bengalooru:-) I had read a lot about DHCP issues with Reliance. It is told that, the problem was with their server being unable to handle too many requests when the connections were reset, mostly when new towers were added [some kind of system reset was done]. Tata Indicom has been extremely cautious about it.

Tata Communications – Indicom WiMax Broadband Plans and Offer:
In this limited edition special offer, [I am not sure when it ends, but is likely to run atleast till Dec-31st] consumers can choose from Pre-Paid or Post-Paid plans. More details on plans available on broadband forum.

One of the other things I am really particular is customer support. Tata Communications call center will handle all support related issues. You may contact the following numbers to establish your connection – 99805 46805 / 98867 67690 / 93433 78853. So Bangaloreans, lets goBroabandddd ;-)

It is hard to belive “Executive” words.I have had very bad exp. with one such fellow. His name is PRAKASH (9986286413).He promised me the connection in one week time and promptly came to my house and collected the money. After that he disappeared and stopped responding to my calls.so dont belive executives contact VSNL people directly.

Previously I had bad experience with tata wireline connetion in terms of connetivity. Whenever my connetin was down the reply from engg is 50 pair copper cable theft.
Then I moved on to VSNL WIMAX connetion what a tremdous improvement.

Thanks to mr. sunil kumar the executive of vsnl who recomended me to take connetion.
I think now we can go for VSNL WIMAX connetion without hesitation Bye bye bye …………

I foun Mr Sunil Number here and contacted for the Wimax Broadband from Tata Indicom VSNL. This serch began because of the frustration with Reliance WIMAX Broad Band which I currently subscribe to. There is very little the technical team does to resolve problems of subscribers at Reliance and the down time is not known when it will hit you and for how long. I hope that is not the case with Tata Indicom. Giving value to the subscribers who dare to subscribe to this new technology which is still in evolving phase we need the Tata Indicom to continue the offer of prepaid and post paid which ended on 5th Jan — for more duration, as it is unfair to charge for 3 or 4 months and not to give any offer as a gesture. If not feasible to go with that then, they should go back to Reliance ways to charge 500 for installation charges and a monthly rental on completion of every month.

hi guys i applied for a tata indicom wimax connection on the 2nd of jan i was promised a connection in 8-10 days time i still have not got the connection and the channel partner mentioned on my reciept doesnt even pick up the call its very frustrating to have 4 months of charges on your account blocked away for a check and have no one respond. i called the service deparment and the response i got from there was they can not do anything till after the 15th day … i was told i would get a call from the installation team telling me when the installation date was but even that did not happen the only reason i opted for this service is because there are not many net cafes in my area …i thought i would get the connection fast but i dont think i will even get it any more ….the service reps response to wat i should do to cancel my order was to place a stop payment on my check …
i dont even know if that will get me into any legal trouble anyway i guess i realize now that i am screwed …the only service tata seems to be capable is a lousy one

  15. Quais on January 13th, 2008 11:37 am

Man they have not even called back/mailed to inform about feasibility of service

  16. Akshat on January 13th, 2008 1:51 pm

    Hi,

This VSNL WiMax is really giving horrible service. we go in touc with an executive named MUSTAFA(9986839200) on 24 Dec,07 and paid the fees for 3 months. he promised us with the connection to be done by 31st, which never happened and then we escalated it to the VSNL guys who told us it will take another 7 – 8 days and will only be done by 9th of Jan.

We still waited and then called them up on 9th and asked them to simply cancel our request and we will block of cheque, which I think helped a bit and they sent a person to install it on 12th Jan.

The person Irfan(9972575337) cam and did the setup and told us that the connection will be activated within 30 minutes, which never happened. We are still waiting for the connection to be activated.

The Person Irfan doesn’t even pick our calls. The customer care talks sweet but takes no action. everytime we call them they just have single answer which is ” they have escalated and their tech team is looking at it”.

Guys I have a advise for you….once you get the connection at your home pls don’t sign the document before the connection is made active and you are actually able to surf.

PS: After reading this blog I called the person Sunil Kumar and he seems to be a nice chap and trying to help. I hope he is able to help us with the activation.

  17. sunil kumar on January 13th, 2008 3:52 pm

    Hi, Akshat
You have given us a right feedback to all vsnl wimax customers that pls ensure that u can able to browse before signing the installation report.

I (sunil) regret what happened to Mr. Akshat the Irfan is a new engg he don’t know that after registration there is renewal to make. However i spoken to our technical team and troubleshooting has been rised.
I request u to bear for a day it can be rectified ASAP.
    Thanks for feedback

    Akshat,

I do agree with you about Tata indicom executives. Tata indicom executives NEVER call back to update you about your complaints.

If you call them ( Which never reaches the wi-max department direclty, you have to ask Broadband guys to transfer your call to Wi-MAx department ) , they would promise you to call back within 24 hrs and update with the current status of the complaint, but that never happens.

I have been calling and following up with them for my complaints. I have even shouted at them to atleast have that much courtesy to call back and update with the complaint status, but all in vain.

  20. Gaurav Gaind on January 14th, 2008 4:58 pm

    Hi guys

Dealing with Tata indicom and getting the account activated is getting frustrating.

On saturday, TI(Tata indicom) engineers came to my place and did the so called installation. they had some problem with activation of the account, for which that “technical” guy told me that it will be fixed within half an hour.

that didn’t happened on Saturday and finally I was told that it will definitely be fixed by Monday.

I have called them twice today, and the status of my complaint has not gone anywhere from ‘Work in progress’ .

Surprisingly, my complaint has been marked as urgent by these tata indicom executives. So in that case it will “hopefully” be fixed by saturday(19-Jan-08) :D

One can conclude Turnaround amount for Tata indicom guys to fix a simple activation problem is 1 (+7) days …

PS: Think twice before appying for Tata indicom WIMAX, beacuse there is no refund if you want to cancel your application after experiencing their “pleasant” service. that means your 3700 rs are screwed.

The best option they give to cancel the application and get full money back is to block the cheque. Which anyone would think not to do as it may lead to some more legal trouble.

and If you really want to cancel the application and don’t want to bear it anymore, do it before they put up the “dummy” installation setup at your home, after that no refund.

kudos to Tata indicom. way to go… this way you will lose many of your customers…

Hi there don’t confuse me with Sunil Kumar above

I got the connection a week back, and guess what, I have been calling call center everyday from that day.I have spent nearly 200 rupees calling them. Yes the speed is good, but frequent disconnections, bad service centers, with little feedback, It’s like we are at the mercy of the signals, like waiting for wind in the old days to move ships on high seas. The only good thing is atleast they don’t cash the cheque until we get the connection so u can atleast threaten to cancel it. I didn’t get a single call from for tens of calls i made. The guys who come to install have little or no technical knowledge.

I have been using broadband for over 4 years, I even used tata indicom dsl connection. But believe me this is the worst .

    rgds,

here I am pasting the mail what I hv wriiten to VSNL nodal officer, customer service and grivence cell. From this u can understand how these beggers are working.till now I did not get proper reply.
    read below
Just now I received a phone call informing the inability to provide the asked service which is in contrary to your earlier conformation of the feasibility and claim that “all over the Bangalore”.
The pity is it took 13 days to draw this conclusion.
It is very much evident from the history of the mails given under that even this info I got only after repeated requests.
Any way please confirms thru mail your inability to provide wimax connection and return my cheque at the earliest.
    Thanks
    Kumar

    Hi!
You know, it is 18th january today; the kite flying festival in Ahmedabad is over with Ahmedabadis, yet is on with the VSNL customer service. This is what the call center executives have to say when u file your complaint of being without connectivity for more than a week. I own a ibt TOEFL center where broadband connectivity is crucial, yet TATA feels that it is more important for its executives to fly kites- let the students suffer so what! My fingers went numb calling their numbers, literally begging the connectivity back but all to deaf ears! the test had to be called off, disappointed students had to go home but so what! HAPPY KITE FLYING TATA VSNL!!!! YOU GUYS ARE FIT FOR THAT ONLY! M SURE U WILL END UP DOING JUST THAT! RESPONSIBILITY IS NOT YOUR CUP OF TEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. Divya Shastry on January 18th, 2008 8:20 pm

    Hey guys !!

There seems to be a overwhelming response to Tata Wimax connection.
Though initially i was skeptical whether i would get the connx or not after seeing the comments(i had applied on 2nd Jan), i got my connx y/d, Wow!! you should use it to believe it…what a speed and connectivity. good improvement consifering that their DSL BB connection had earneed them bad reviews in the market and yes i received a call also before to let me know abut the delay and response….you can get in touch with their escalation cell at 66239133, 9243111517 and they get your issues solved quite promptly and smoothly…rgds Divya

    Hi Divya,

    Thanks for giving positive feedback.
This will help us improve our service.

  29. Balakrishnan on January 20th, 2008 7:04 pm

I should first express my thanks to Tata Indicom and the executive Mr Sunil in particular. Almost I can say I tried with all broadband suppliers like Airtel, Reliance, Sify, hathway etc etc.. except BSNL.. Out of them Reliance only came up with wimax plan and they came to house to install the receiver.. But while installation itself signals didnt come properly and so they went back telling connection not feasible. At that time I tried for Tata indicom wired broadband connection but cudnt get it. Then Mr. Sunil called me telling that Tata indicom also introduced WIMAX scheme. First I was quite reluctant because I have already experienced problems with Reliance. But Sunil assured me that Tata indicom has more number of towers, so surely i can get broadband connection. So I have registered for new connection. Thou there was quite delay (14 days) in which I didnt receive even a single call from the Tata indicom executives, I have been keeping on asking Mr.sunil about the progress.. and at the end of 14th day they came to my house and checked for signal strength.. and installed the receiver after 5 days.. and now i am working with it. Thou there are major rumours that Tata Indicom is slow, I didnt feel so .. (but i am using for the past 3 days only)

Anyhow its good that Tata indicom had given the connection finally.. even thou I equally agree its quite hard to get thro customer support by calling 60607070… its somewhat late in getting proper response..

  30. Satish Chandrasekaran on January 21st, 2008 12:15 pm

My STRONG RECOMMENDATION: STAY AWAY FROM TATA INDICOM WIMAX. These cluless jerks have no idea on what they are doing. I had my connection installed a week ago. All fine for 5 days. Then on friday, I could not browse (though surprisingly, other port traffic was going through). Raised a complaint – no response for 2 days. Called them 8 times. On saturday afternoon, even the other port traffic stopped. Status is showing NOT OPER on my conneciton – but signal strenght is great!!! Been talking to clueless idiots in their call center who make all the right noises about this being “ESCALATED” to be fixed. Not even the courtesy of a call back to update progress. As of now, the conneciton is down, Tata Indicom has encashed my 16,180 cheque (for 4 months advance for post paid 1MBPS Infinty plan) – and I am screwed. I am going to the consumer courts to get my money refunded.

Tata Wimax service in Bangalore is bullshit.. there are lot of problems.. frequent discunnection, the uplink not work at all.. so you cannot send a mail, upload anything to internet.

their customer care is pathetic, even we log a complaint, without resoving the issue they will close the complaint.

logging the complanit itself will cost you a lot, tey’ll put you in hold for a long time, since they dont have any toll free number, like reliance. so one must have a tata phone also to reduce the cost to contat customer care.

as the initial offer they are giving an additional 3 months validity, but this never was the case, my connection is almost one month old.. still the validity is only for 3 months, when contacted they keep on saying excuses, and said have to wait till the 3 validity to be over to get the bonus 3 months validity added.. I’m not sure I’ll really get this BONUS…

last but not the least, I lost lot of money by calling them for installation, customer care, and following them up… :( may more than the installation charge.

  37. Balakrishnan on January 27th, 2008 6:25 pm

Even thou Wimax connection works in my premises, I face the problem of frequent cut off.. and sometimes if it cuts off.. it takes hours again to get back the connection. When contacted the customer service, they have sent one service engineer. When he came, the connection was proper… and they told the reason like, there may be some problem with authentication of my user ID in the base station. They told soon they wil rectify this problem..

I understand that since this is the initial roll out phase of WIMAX, a lot of unexpected problems are coming. But I would like to tell them that, they should act fast to set them all right to avoid controversies..

  41. Vijay on January 29th, 2008 12:06 am

    Hi All,

I have always used Airtel Broadband, everything was great. They didn’t have feasibility in Marathahalli. Basically, not left with too much of a choice but to try something like TataIndicom WiMax. After reading the blog, it seems that it is a disaster that is bound to happen. Anyways, Hoping someone can help..

    1) I made a request online for broadband connection in Bangalore (TataIndicom), they told me about WiMax. A executive guy called up and gave me the rates. He came to my place without an identification and a torn application form . It is so hard to contact him by phone, he never picks up his call for days together. After reading the blog, I am even more skeptic. How do I check whether this guy is from TataIndicom? He wants four months charges in cash..

    2) The executive gave me contact for a technical guy, but the technical guy said that as my apartment is between big buildings the WiMax will not work. He visited the place again, said that it will work if placed in the 2nd floor (my apt is 4th floor). Will the guys coming to install figure it out and will it work fine?

    3) I have an VoIP device that I use. With Airtel Broadband, I had the wall output connected to DSL Modem (ADSL- Netgear) which was connected to the VoIP device (which is also a router) then to the VoIP phone and my laptop.
The technical guy told me that the VoIP device will not work with WiMAX internet. I do not understand why? Any inputs or help on this.

    Thanks

Well Wimax is up n running—
I HAVE USED RELIANCE WIMAX BEFORE—-THE SPEEDS AND CUSTOMERCARE IS BETTER THAN RELIANCE WIMAX WHERE I HAD A HORRID TIME–THE ENGINEERS/AGENTS AT RELIANCE ARE UNFRIENDLY UNHELPFUL AND DONT KNOW WHAT THEY R DOING.in contrast i have had a good experiance with tata wimax till now–planning to setup a wi fi router on that–anyone knows how it can be done

  43. Sreekumar on January 30th, 2008 2:46 pm

    Hie All,
This is regarding the VSNL TATA Indicom WIMAX connection. I stay at Basavanagar(near HAL) and got it installed on the 18th of Jan. The service engineers installed and showed me the connection working on their laptop and left. I did not have time to verify whether it was working on my PC(entirely my fault) as i had to leave.
I came back on Monday and found that i could not connect and the login page never loaded. On calling up customer service they said they had send a service engineer who turned up 2 days later(23rd) and analysed and told me the signal was very weak(only 2 when it should be abt 16, i am not quite sure what it was) and the installation was not right and the reciever would have to be installed at a different location and the service engineers who installed it will have to do the same.
After that i have called up customer care atleast 5-6 times and each time they would repeat the same old process of telling the IP that my PC has acquired etc,etc and say my complaint is put on high priority. No action has happened after that and i have taken a prepaid connection of which i have already lost 12 days.
Advice to all, make sure the connection is working on your PC before you sign and let the installation engineers leave.
As for me again getting back to calling customercare to give my complaint the highest priority

When I tried customer care, they will first tell that the call landed up on broadband section and they will transfer the call to WIMAX section. Even if you wait for 15 min also you cant get connected to the executive. This problem I faced not for just one time.. More than 5 times i tried in 2 days ( imagine how much I might have spent). Even I have called the direct sales executive who had recommended me to get the connection, but didnt get any proper solution from him. But one of the very senior person from TI Mr. Jagadeesan had called me and asked me about the problem. The next day himself along with the service engineers came to my house and they dismantled the existing antenna and did few testings and they told they will come the next day to fix it right. On the same day Mr. Jagadeesan called me again and asked me about the status. Since no one came there after, he had told that he will take care of this issue. There after more than 3-4 times he itself called me and kept on updating me of the processes.. and today the service engineers came again and given back the connection. Even after that also Mr. Jagadeesan called me back and asked whether its working well or not. I am really delighted to see such a dedicated person in TI. Like his own work, he takes care of the customer problems. I express my sincere thanks to him who had took all the efforts to get this problem rectified

    hi sunil,
Can you provide me the details of “Area Of Coverage ” for the wimax connection . Previously i had applied for Reliance Wimax Connection and after giving the entire amount to them , i was told that there is no coverage in my area. It was some 2 month back and i’ve not yet the refund amount as well . So , i would prefer to take any connection only after , i’m assured to getting the connection. Hope you understand my concern. I’m giving you my full address here , if you can check , whether its really feasible to provide a connection here , then that would be a great help .
    Thanks,

TATA WIMAX is worst service i have ever seen frequent disconnections upload speed of just 20-40 kbps no open ports and thier customer care dont know any thing whatsoever i took wimax prepaid and disconnected it in just 3-4 days go for airtel or bsnl or sify these are much better . Tata people dont even give refunds on disconnections nor they provide service all they do is make customer fool thank god i paid them by check so i did a stop payment and saved my 6495 rs. i warn anyone who is going for tata wimax u will not be satisfied

  50. Sreekumar on February 5th, 2008 10:38 am

    Hie Guys,
I have posted a comment on January 30th. The status still remains the same, i have called up vsnl tata indicom broadband customer service atleast another 3 times after that. Each time they have said someone would be coming to check the connection and still nothing has happened. I really think it was a bad idea to have taken the connection. I have even sent a mail to the nodal head who promptly replied that it was being looked into. Now already lost 19 days of internet time, what is the point of customer care.

  51. Santhosh on February 5th, 2008 1:28 pm

I made an enquiry about wimax (bangalore) on 18th January and received feasibility confirmation on the 21st. No one ever called me although i was told that i would be contacted by someone from their end. I don’t remember the number of calls I made to their office, how many minutes I had to wait for the connection to be transferred from the broadband dept to the wimax dept. As many have said above, the reply i get is, we have “escalated” this, “we have logged a complaint”, “we have put you on high priority”. I don;t know if these people have any idea what “escalation” or “high priority” means.I am so pissed off, i am going for sify if I dont get a reply soon. I have heard about how bad sify is but the extent of frustration is such that even if i dont get good results from sify, i want to take it just because of the lack of commitement from these people. I never expected TATA to be so bad.

  54. Rafi on February 13th, 2008 6:06 pm

    Hi This is Rafi,

Summary: Tata Indicom Wimax is CRAP and their customer support is WORSE.

I applied for and got the connection within a week in KR Puram, Bangalore. I could browse the same night. The speed was upto 30 kbps for downloads.

Unfortunately, I am not able to connect from the next day onwards.

I have been calling their Customer Service, who make me wait endlessly, do not give any concrete answer.

After about 48 hrs, one guy visited my house, checked the settings, which were all fine. He started blaming the people who installed the receiver.

After that another 48 hrs have elapsed, I have called them about 4-6 times but nothing has happened as yet.

  55. Sharath on February 13th, 2008 6:53 pm

    To SunilKumar:
THe tataIndicom servers are down since Sunday(10th Feb 08) around HSR layout in Bangalore. Any idea when they will be up?
As usual Cust.service guys are not able to answer. Do you know what is going on?

  56. Sreekumar on February 15th, 2008 3:01 pm

    Hie Guys,
Me again. I have to say customer care is tiring. No luck so far. They keep on doing the repetitive process of verifying IP, checking signal strength. Each time they say someone will come and check it out. Then when i dont see any response, i call them up and again back to square one.
Grrr… I dont want to say anything more about VSNL Tata Indicom Broadband.
Will post when i finally have a working connection. And guys stay away from wimax for now.

  57. Balakrishnan on February 15th, 2008 10:53 pm

I have recently (15th feb) called TI customer care. To my surprise they have added up WIMAX in the call menu instead of making us to wait for minutes together by transferring call to the wimax dept. And surprisingly the call is attended by the service executive very fast and they are somewhat providing nice trouble shootings to get back the connection. Its a good improvement in the customer service of Tata indicom

  58. Kalyan on February 18th, 2008 2:37 am

    Hello Guys,

Please provide your valuable unbaised review for the TI WiMax Service which is currently being offered. I’m currently is a SIFY user getting really pissed off with the connection quaility offered to me over Ethernet Cables. SIFY CUSTCARE proved to be unsuccessful as the entire network quality in my area seems like degraded and no one really cares to rectify this despite my repeated attemps to CUSTCARE

Please suggest if we could chose TI WiMax as a reliable service provider and also provide yourvaluable experiences to help me/us(+others) decide

Don’t take TATA WiMax, there service is bad.

Never belief in their feasibility report, after 20 days they haven’t told me that it is not possible to do.

I am having a tough time getting my cheque back now. The customer service is sooooo bad.

If you have a choice stay away from TATA WiMax, I have heard my friend have problems with reliance WiMax also..

If you have AIRTEL broadband in ur area, DON”T EVEN THINK… AIRTEL is the BEST !! NO PROBLEMS and EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE.

  63. Balakrishnan on February 27th, 2008 8:31 pm

Recent news is that VSNL has been renamed as Tata communications because TATA groups took over the control from VSNL.

so now they introduced one toll free number also for the customer service. So i hope the great misery of calling up 60607070 and spending much will be reduced hereafter

    Hi All,

I applied online for Tata indicom wimax broadband and luckily got it installed in three days only. The base station is close to my house so speed was awesone. Everything was fine on first day but suddenly on second day it stopped working, showing unidentified network for the LAN. Mine is a static IP with infinity 256 plan (User Id: mostvisited ) and have paid 4 months rental in advance. Its a pain to call customer care as they will force u to listen sm crap music. Somehow i got a rep online and explained my problem he told me to clear cache , cookies and everything ..in middle call was disconnected and since then i m trying only bt nt able to reach any cc guy.Its third day now. After reading the reviews and posts i m afraid whether the problem will be fixed ever… If anyone have faced this problem please let me knw the workaround.

    Thanks,

  67. Bala on March 12th, 2008 9:17 am

This is in Regard to the most recent blog by Mr. Vishal Anand. If you have read my earlier blogs again, I faced the similar problem earlier. Only difference in I am having dynamic IP (prepaid)

For me also during browsing itself, it will lose connection and will get connected to unidentified network. (shown with yellow exclamation mark on LAN status). Hope u r using VISTA OS.
U kindly try to check your signal strength on ur own by going into modem setup page.. Then you can confirm whether there is problem in signal or some other problem..

Because most of the tiems even when signal is good, there are some problems with base station itself.

    Hi all,

I am facing the so called “frequent disconnection” as well. The funniest side of it is that, whenever I refresh the mac address of my router, the connection works again, sometimes for the next 1/2 hour, sometimes for the next 10 seconds (today it is particularly bad, the timeout is happening in 10 secs or so). When I called the customer service, they only guided me to test without the router, and then it worked. But I cannot believe it can be the problem with my router, because I have two of them, both of which worked perfectly well with static ip (hathway) and dhcp (airtel) before.

To say it in more detail, when it seems disconnected, it cannot even ping the dns servers, the gateway, or even the tata indicom login page. when I refresh the mac address of the router, it starts working again. it also works if I change the mac address of the router and save the settings, so I don’t think it is storing the mac address for authentication.

any idea how to solve this problem?

I got a reliance wimax connection last month.By day one i am facing lot of problems.Wenhever u call cc they will tell some DHCP problem i.e y u unable to connect.

Once i called for tata wimax executive he told me that the dhcp problem is due to dynamic ip i,e.y tata providing static ip this problem will not be there. And he told that wimax is using low frequency signal i.e .y the signal will travell much distance so u need to be nearest to the tower. And he also told that reliance is come with 37 towers when they started but tata peop[le came with 140 odd towers from day one.

Please help me in this regard, I thionk that tata executive is right can i go ahead with tata wimax?
Please reply me soon, I need connection very badly.

  74. Naresh R V on March 22nd, 2008 8:11 pm

    Hi,

Please never go for TATA Wi Max connection. Its useless.

They gave the connection properly and I signed only after the registration is done.

    After three weeks, everything stopped.

Need to call their customer care 60607070, wait for hours together to find a person online, then hold again for another contact for 30 minutes, then hold again for network team for 30 minutes. Finally says, the base station has the fluctuations and they resolve it. Works fine at that moment. Later, an hour, stops working. This is happening for a week now. Very worst service. Irresponsible staff and irresponsive solutions.

When asked to connect the manager, waits for 30 minutes and then says, sorry.. all lines are busy and so cannot connect to the manager.

When asked for the ETA of the base station frequency fluctuation issue, they fail to reply and apologize.

If they provide the connection properly, the after-services are worst. They never take care of the customers, just money from the customers.

Never go and face such problems with Tata Wi Max. You will loose your money as well as time, calling customer care lest leave hopes on the issues getting solved.

The base station frequency fluctuates regularly and no one attends to it.

    Regards,
    Naresh R V

  75. Deb on March 23rd, 2008 12:34 pm

They kind of force you to pay in advance for four months. I have found one hack in refreshing the mac address of my router, but for each click while browsing, if you have to refresh your mac address, it doesn’t work. Also, VPN support is pretty bad — some VPN clients don’t at all work with this and some do, but then it disconnects so frequently, so you’ve to connect it back again.

  76. Vinodh on March 25th, 2008 7:28 pm

Gosh!!! should have read this blog before. Just yest I registered online for feasibility of Tata WiMax in my area and today a guy called me explained the plans. Within an hr the mkting exec was here to collect the cheque and applicaiton. I paid 4 months adv for postpaid (changing the very definition of “postpaid”), and promised that the connection will be made within 3 days (hope so… oops noo pray sooo) coz i had dreadful experience with Tata Indicom BB (wired) at my earlier location.

Now after reading thru these blogs am seriously concerned about my money. Do you ppl advise me to stop cheque immediately. Will there be any consequences due to this? I opted for Tata as a last resort as no other ISP is offering services at my location :(

Buck up Airte, Reliance, BSNL to give a kick to Tata…

  77. Vinodh on March 26th, 2008 7:29 pm

Spellbound!! is all what I can say!. Tata seems to be magical in its new customer acquisition dept. Before I can begin to wait.. i already got the WimaX connection up and running today. Speeds were quite satisfactory in the initial run. Hope the gud run continues…

Tata Indicom, you need to buck up on customer retention by providing proper and time assistance and resolution, if you are not already doing so.

Thank you for the quick service.

  78. Mohan on March 28th, 2008 11:51 am

Am extremely sick of this tata wimax connection. For first month it worked well but in the second month i was flooded with problems. It comes as limited or no connectivity. Though i called customercare executives so for (10 days over and continuing) nothing has been done to fix it. Their technicians have conflicting opinions one says signal problem and other says antenna installation was improper. I never thought TATA co, will be giving such a disgusting service. Even in this post many ppl are wishing to sell their products but what about their maintenance..? Not interested..? If at all there is anyone to care for that plz verify complaint i already registered, complaint numbers are: 5199762 and 5239718

    Mohan

  79. Vinodh on March 31st, 2008 11:10 am

So there i am again! even before a week could go by before the installation of the much hyped Tata Wimax as feared its not working! and what more this too over a wknd. For getting thru the cust care it takes a min of whopping 40 mins. moreover we are expected to be sitting before the PC to check status real-time phew!! so we need to call from our mobile / home LL burning a hole in our pockets. And does this yeild any result? The answer is NO. You can’t expect any resolution sooo soon that too over a wknd. The funniest part is they mark the complaint as resolved citing ‘no problem at their end’ without bothering to check back with the customer. And each time they just buy more time by providing new complaint number.

The guy who installed the connection is out of scene now.. either keeps his mobile at home or cuts it. This guy had said he will come on wknd and mount the antenna in a proper place (on a wall) which was supposed to be done at the time of installation but was not done for the silly reason that the driller had broken. Now the antenna is installed precariously on a metal ralling and who is to blame / held responsible if this is stolen / spoiled?

Banners have been put up in the whole area offering 3 months free broadband. Guys.. for heaven’s sake plz DO NOT go for Tata Broadband. Its better off be without internet than to have this shit. Its time TATA mgmt takes notice and save their reputation before its too late. They’d better offer a connection FREE OF PROBLEM rather than FREE Broadband. Hope someone is hearing.

For the record my complaint no. is 5314092

  80. Nilkanth on April 2nd, 2008 12:30 am

I have tried both WIMAX TATA(2times) and Reliance(once) and believe me both are horrible!!

I am stuck wiith TATA 4month payment – no installation charge.

Reliance has connectivity and DHCP issue. They charge Rs. 2000 for static IP(good way to make lot of money!). I disconnected after 5 complains in 2 months without any of the complain resolved yet. Lot HOT of sessions with customer care.

Funniest thing with reliance customer care is: everytime you call, they will tell ” It will be resolved ASAP” no date and time to fix! I heard that constantly for 15 days. Doesnt matter if you talk to superwiser or executive, everyone is stupid and careless

I recommend never try reliance. even if the connectivity is improved, their customer care is most horrible I have ever seen.

Now I am with Tata(VSNL). I went with offer of zero installation charge on paying for 4 months rental(this is trick to get quick money). Executive will come to your place and promise BIG results and by abusing reliance. You get the connection real quick(1 day!)

But, after the connection made… wait and watch your internet getting disconnected 4-5 times every hour. you have to switch on/off power or reset connection from router/telnet.

I always heard great feedback of Airtel(not available in my area) and BSNL (when I called, they said it will take 3-4 months to get new connection).

I think we will have to wait for an MNC like Vodafone or Virgin mobile to come to broadband service for value to your money.

vinod as u said out tata indicom antenna got stolen from our bangalore residence…..Its not 5th floor not visible from street. Its very surprising and the customer care people telling that get a FIR from police station and we will replace. Again if it disappears what will happen? can we put one watchman for antenna?
This service is very unrealistic. they refused to give a broadband wired connection as they claiming it they stopped the service

  84. Sunil Kumar Yasa on April 20th, 2008 12:56 pm

OK guys, here I am back after some 3 months I guess. I was supposedly one of the first few customers in Bangalore. I waited for 3 months for the service to get stable. first one month was horrible……I posted comments all over the net……..it took some real hard work from my side to get them to hear my complaints. later finally I got a stable connection after replacing the antenna.
the next 2 months, it was real stable. consistent speed(which was never a problem).

this is my fourth month. and guess what I am back to square one.

but this time I lost my patience. coz I have better things to do than pray everytime I switch on to get get a connection.

so here’s my advice. Unless you have no other option, don’t go for this one.

    Hi Irfan,

Do not lure people into this money blackhole called Reliance Wi-Max.

From the day I took this connection, it was giving problems. I had been continuously giving complains for same.
And every time I call them, they say my previous complain is resolved and closed (even though in reality nobody bothered to call me whether my connection was working or not ). I told them to reopen as it has been falsely reported as resolved and now they tell that they can not reopen it, system did not allow it.

I asked for waiver and now they are telling that all your problems are closed in time so no waiver.

There are only 2 good things about reliance:
    1. They do not take advance like Tata
    2. Their customer care number is toll free from reliance number atleast.

    Hi All,

I think wimex in Bangalore is Wrost. I had connnection since Feb 2008 and I am facing Frequent Packet every 1.5 Min. So VPN and VOIP is nightmare with tata. I tried CUstCare/Nodel Officer and Tata NMS team — No body have clue — NMS team asking Stupid question like:

If you not able to Ping Default Gateway —Ar you able to browse.

So I will suggest do not go for any wimex in Bangalore as These people enabled for only Home users not commercial use. Commercial User Need SLA and Tata Wimex/Reliance Wimex have no guts to provide SLA.

Can somebody provide me information on Consumer Court — How Do I lunch the complaint or where I will contact regarding Tata Wimex???

    Regards
    Arvind

DON’T take Wimax connection from Reliance or Tata . Only for IT guys who can trouble shoot themself… Better to go for BSNL .. I bought Tata broadband WiMax ..its router should be ON 24×7 hours . In case of power cut you have to re-configure the things , which is simple but irritating and may be difficult to do by ur wife or non techy person.

    Hi,

I am very much thankful to this blog as I made right dicision in choosing Tata indicom wimax as broadband connection. As i contacted tata customer care on 17th july, got full information about the connection and told them to come to office tomorrow for registration. Next day one from tata called me and told he was coming today(on 18th). I registered for 750 plan(unlimited).
Next day tata called for verification of address(on 19th).Finally i got connection on 20th. i am very happy with the customer care service. I don’t believe that i am having internet connection within 3 days. Thanks to tata.
    Keeeeeeep this up.

Tata Indicom Broadband sucks, i have been continously facing issues with CONNECTIVITY & with no downtime credit whatsoever. Shifting of location takes more than 5 months & that too after n…number of follow ups.

Once shifting of location is completed their instrument stops working & I am sent reminders to make payment else to avoid disconnection….can you believe that there is no connection and these guys are talking about disconnection….amazing…..

I have decided to go for BSNL which seems to be a better option considering my worst experince that i had with TATA INDICOM BRADBAND.

ANY OF YOU GUYS READING THIS DO NOT EVER OPT FOR THEIR CONNECTION IT REALLY IS PATHETIC.

JUST TO LET YOU GUYS KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT A FAKE COMPLAINT MY TATA INDICOM ID IS SHEIK.GANI@VSNL.NET

    hi friends..

i think i can better share my experience about broadband connection.
I stay at marathahalli bangalore. and i wanted to have broadband connection.

Service and quality wise airtel is probly the best i have ever experienced.
but in some areas of marathalli airtel connection is not available.

    RELIANCE BROADBAND CONNECTION –

    THEY HAVE THE WORST COVERAGE..
MY MONEY AND TIME, PATIENCE EVERYTHING WASTED.
DONT WANT TO WASTE MY ENERGY ON WRITING AGAINST THEM.
FEEL LIKE BLASTING THEM FOR THEIR USELESS SERVICE.

GO FOR RELINCE BROADBAND CONNECTION AT UR OWN RISK.

Now coming to TATA INDICOM WIMAX CONNECTION.

ADVANTAGES OF TATA INDICOM WIMAX –

    1) customer care calling is toll free from ur mobile number/ landline number. so it does not hurt to be online and get ur issues resolved on phone
    2) Better (Much better) coverage than reliance.
    3) Service is faster and better. U call for the wimax connection and u will get it with in 4 days.
    4) u call to customer care and they will send their executive ASAP with in 2 days.

    Disadvantage -

If u have subscribed for unlimited usage for 256 kbps/ 384kbps , then u will be exploited. The net connection download/upload speed is very very slow.
I had earlier 384 kbps and after 3 months of usage with 384 kbps i downgraded to 256kbps. now the net speed is dead slow. where as my friends with airtel connection with 256kbps have atleast 10 times faster then my speed.

So in that regard, i have complained the customer care many times, but did not get any positive response on that.
They say there may be some signal issue but they have not yet resolved the issue ..

Rest all service of Tata indicom wimax are good, except the internet download upload speed. if u compare with airtel than u will find airtell Broadband connection is significantly faster..

    MY RANKING –
    AIRTEL BROADBAND 8/10
    TATA INDICOM WIMAX – 7/10
    RELIANCE WIMAX – 1/10

Guys – one word of caution before applying for Tata Indicom Wimax. I have been using this service for 5 months now. All i can say is, if you are ok with paying for 256kbps and getting only 20 kbps actually, then go for this connection. If you are ok with auto disconnect every 15 min, then go for this connection. Worst of all, if you would like to be on hold for 20 min whenever you call the tata indicom call center, then go for it.

If this is a pilot, i think we are guinea pigs !! I think Tata indicom is acting greedy by adding new connections without maintaining good service. I don’t know about you, but i am switching to a wireline connection as soon as i can. Who knows maybe i will drag Tatas to the consumer court as well.

  126. Sandip Sharma on September 30th, 2008 11:02 pm

BTW, my login is sandipsharma123 and area is Marathalli.

  127. Gautam on October 9th, 2008 1:05 pm

Tata wimax is pathetic. I strongly advise all people to stay away from Tata. There are frequent disconnections, it will work for 30-40min and then will be down for another 10min. Also there are lot of network outages after 9pm. Worst thing is that the customer care will keep you on hold forever and you will waste a lot of your time and money calling them.My connection is just 10 days old and i am repenting for taking Tata wimax.
In short poor performance, very very bad customer service.

  128. Vembu N S on October 11th, 2008 7:27 pm

HERE I AM PASTING MY CORRESPONDENCE WITH TATA COMMUNICATIONS BROADBAND AFTER MIGRATING TO WI-MAX

    Hello,
Thank you for the prompt reply. But Alas! No action had been taken. Everyday I had spent a lot of telephone bill by calling 60607070 your consumer service number( your Call collect dont work). Everyone in the call centre invariably do three things. ONE- Regretting for the delay and inconvenience. TWO- Sending mail immediately to the concerned Department. THREE- Assuring prompt service WITHIN 24 Hours( every 24 Hours they assure me to resolve the issue within 24 hours)
I really find it difficult to express words of appreciation for such a wonderful service! Today I have entered Twelth day successfully WITHOUT my VOIP device Vonage getting connected. VOIP IS MY PARAMOUNT REQUIREMENT TO CONTINUE WITH YOUR INTERNET SERVICE. If it is beyond the scope of your network or beyond your Technical competence please say so; so that I can seek Alternate internate service Providers. Can you give me a RESPONSIBLE persons Phone Number who can be able to solve the issue now at least. I am not able to reach beyond your call centre which in my opinion is utterly irresponsible and highly incompetent.
ALSO YOUR FIELD ENGINEER MR S PRAKASH PHONE NO- 09243164932 HAS TAKEN AWAY MY VOIP DEVICE YELLOW CABLE WHICH WAS UNWARRANTED AS IT IS MY PROPERTY. ON THE EVENING OF 29/9/08 WHEN I CONTACTED HIM HE PROMISED TO RETURN IT THE NEXT DAY. SO FAR HE HAS NOT REURNED THE CABLE. EVERYDAY WHEN I TRY TO CONTACT HIM HE CUTS MY CALL. IF THE CABLE IS NOT RETURNED TO ME BY TUESDAY I AM GOING TO GIVE A POLICE COMPLAINT AGAINST THE FIELD ENGINEER.

U have not mentioned u r having static IP or getting ip automatically.

2, If dynamic IP it can be done using two LAN cards doing proxy configuration, or using wireless router..

Hope it will do for u..

got the connection in 3 days… that went smoooth… but what to do with this slow speed ! 384kbps plan gives only 12 kBps avg !!! sucks…
I wish I was born 50 years later… if the world would exist, then atleast slow internet wud be in history books only.
Its all because of these f**king business minded people. All they care abt is money and extend the technology for as long as possible. Eg. even if the technology for creating 1 TB HDD existed in 2004, it became cheaper in market only after 2008, so that these m**her f**kers can could earn their bread for 4 years, and we like fools bought an 80GB, then 120GB and then 250GB and now will again happily buy the 1 TB HDD.
Internet is also now in the hands of these looters. They sold different kinds of marketing techniques first dial-up, ISDN, DSL, then in wireless CDMA, plug-surf and now they have a new lollipop for us called WIMAX (my a**).

    Sir,
I was a very loyal customer of TATA Broadband and I used their services from 2005 to 2009.
But in 2009 their services started deteriorating and i became very frustrated .In fact in our area they started gaving problems and suddenly tata broadband decided to discontinue their services and I got an SMS regarding that.
In june 2009 my internet services were stopped because of that .

Anyway It was company’s decision to terminate their services in our area and they told me to go for wireless broadband as they are having problem in running DSL router services.
But when their people came for connecting wireless broadband they found that they were not getting the signals in our area .

I told them ok you refund me the money paid in advance for 3 months as i had just renewed the plan . they said it will be done after collecting the instrument in august 2009 they came for collecting the instrument (DSL Router)
.Since then I have been sending them mails for refunding the money due to me.

And I must say that I was really astonished to noite that the comapny works in a very unprofessional and casual manner It seems no body is bothered about their customers .

I have sending mails since than and I have mail folder wherein I have around 50 mails and their replies from tata commnication . Their replies are very general and same almost as if some machine is sending you and automatic reply.

Acording to them my request has been processed and i will recieve my refund within 15-20 days This reply I have been recieving since Oct,2009.

Someone may Pls help me and Mr. TATA’s reputation

I am using TATA WiMax 768 Kbps plan.

Guys , Do not ever go for this.

Totally fake service provided by TATA Comm.

Daily you will get 20 % of packet loss and speed is same like old Dial-Up modem (54 Kbps) or less then this..

    Thanks,
    SONU

This is Pro.Surendra Reddy, retired from IIM, age 63 settled in Ahmedabad since 2 years now at home and resident at Satygarah Chanvni, Settelite, Ahmedabad which is one of the good area of Ahmedabad city, I have flat cost of 2 C Rs (current cost) and have several investments in market so its quite obvious that I am financially sound to pay your prestigious company amount of Rs 50/- for late payment isn’t it?

Just to bring your notice, gave you glimpse of mine background, the reason for wasting your time is my personal experience with your reputed organization’s authorities is very horrible and shocking.

i am having connection since two years, I was not able to pay amount 750/- Rs of my monthly rental because of we were out of station, we received bill and paid amount but due to some additional charges account didn’t got activated so after lot of follow-ups with call center we got number of some Mr. Alok babar designated as customer service delivery head , we called him at least 7 to 8 times (we understand person may be busy) but when on we called after sometime i was able to talk, we requested him to take care of the additional charges and we are ready to pay the charges on same time.

We thank you for your services as the response we got from Mr. Alok babar was “If you are not capable to pay 50 Rs why are you using connection of Tata and also informed me about company is however not interested to keep such customer’s connection particularly residential connection with very much attitude and a very rude manner are we changing trend of customer service delivery as if we get such dialogue from Sr person than i think we must revisit at management level and have to redefine definition of customer service

Thus just to inform you about my financial capability we can surely pay 50/- Rs.

Is it tata is now out of customer service?

Anyway if you drop down Ahmedabad someday please drop down for cup of tea.

    Regards

    S.P Reddy
