Do Not Call / Disturb Registry in 3 Months ?

TRAI in a notification has authorized National Informatics Center [NIC] to build a Do Not Call / Disturb registry of India. I am still skeptical about the timing of 3 Months. The final notification includes unsolicited SMS under the Telemarketing clause and hence the Telemarketer is liable for a fine 🙂 Each Unsolicited Call or SMS will cost the telemarketer Rs 500 if you are registered in the Do Not Call / Disturb registry.

However, I notice one issue with the regulation.

After the establishment of National Do Not Call registry, Telephone subscriber (Landline or cellular) who does not wish to receive Unsolicited Commercial Comminication can register their telephone number with their telecom service provider for inclusion in the registry.

So this means you have to still register with your Telecom Service Provider to stop reciving the calls /SMS and cannot directly register with the registry. We have compiled Do Not Call / Disturb links of appropriate service provider to register and stay in peace 🙂 Financial Services and Credit Card Companies in India  are the biggest losers of this notification by TRAI.

  1. i am concerned if we can sue these companies with a simple procedure. does it require any complex governmental procedure? or we can just simply file application with the consumer court?
