Mobile – Value Added Services Market in India

In order to boost bottomlines, Cellcos in India are concentrating on Value Added Services by tying up with ISVs. SMS is already a big hit in India and consumers are using them to get stock/sports update to book their weekend movie tickets and much more.

Mobile service providers are just a distribution channel for 100+ ISVs targeting the Indian market. The Indian VAS market is expected to be little short of $1 Billion at $900 Million this fiscal. The ISV pie is likely to be around $150 Million.

Bharti Telesoft, a Bharti Airtel group company providing VAS globally is planning to launch products for the 3G market and also create a m-commerce platform for B2C and C2C transactions. Anil Gajwani, chief operating officer, Bharti Telesoft said

Over the next three years, our new products and services will account for over 50 per cent of our revenues

Saket Agarwal, COO, Cellebrum said,

3G would make the user experience better and richer in terms of the quality and availability. Considering this, we have set up a 3G competency centre in Singapore so as to innovate, test and pilot the solutions before launching them in India. These new service offerings along with our overseas expansion will ensure a growth rate of 100 per cent this fiscal as we grow from a Rs 50-crore company in 2005-06 to a Rs 100-crore company this fiscal year-end.

Cellebrum also plans to launch Video Messaging Service which is likely to be similar to Veeker which went live today.
