What is MingleBox ? A dedicated social networking platform for Indians only. Though still in Alpha, the site is fully functional with Blogs, Photos, Groups and Campus features. The company plans to mature as a next generation media company making the best use of technology.
Mingle background: I had a chance to sit with the founders, who have a terrific background and a classic example for “Doers Profile“. MingleBox is the outcome of their entrepreneurial desires. The formidable four converged at Bangalore, India and started MingleBox operations earlier this year. Their informal survey suggested that not many Indian high-school and college kids are interested in the traditional media (TV) and are going online or mobile. It hasn’t taken long time for their Lead Developer, Mr. Sanjay to get the site up and running who was also a Search Engineer at Yahoo! They are fully aware of the Mobile Phone revolution in India and you can expect a cool feature (MingleMobile) that will be unveiled pretty soon. I am confident that it will have the WOW! effect on it’s users :-).
MingleBox.Com: The site is localized and is closed ended unlike MySpace or Yahoo! 360. You need to be a member to browse the site which they said was done keeping privacy issues in mind, really especially for the Indian women. The community can get rid of unwanted or hate messages by flagging them. MingleBox community is unique as it helped users create and exchange information on current festivals and events, for instance the Navaratri Dandia and Durga Pooja. Some Paparazzi 😉 has also uploaded the pictures of Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao wedding at Panchagani 🙂
MingleBox is seed funded by founders and their associates and will always be free for users. They intend to make money by advertisng and another platform which is a closely held secret. The sign-ups opened last month and have conisderable number of users(in Thousands). However, their are not many passive users which is keeping Sanjay on his feet. MingleBox formally has a 6 day week and the team has high level of energy with the zeal to make a difference in the Indian e-Media. I dont know about this new site mingle box but have been using Batchmates.com for a long time. They also have a contest through which I got a T-shirt. A couple of my freinds also won and actually received mobiles.
