RCom

Anil Ambani controlled, Reliance Communications Ltd today announced at an analysts conference that it has bagged enterprise data business from the global internet majors Google, Yahoo and Microsoft. Reliance will provide the GYM companies bandwidth connectivity and data managed services from India. It’s nice to see the convergence of global internet giants at Reliance data centers :-) Google and Microsoft have plans for SEZ operations in India. Also, a Redmond Insider has tipped me that Microsoft India will be an independant subsidiary of Microsoft Corporation.

RCom has 150,000 Kms of OFC globally of which 88,000 Kms is within India and the rest is international bandwidth connecting 6 continents.

Bharti’s WAP System Equipment order to Nokia. Stock Upgraded.

October 31, 2006 · Filed Under Mobile, Telecom · 1 Comment

Airtel Nokia IndiaBharti Tele-Ventures Limited known throughout the world for its unique and successfull telecom business model has done it for the third time. This time, Bharti Airtel Ltd has outsourced its WAP Systems and Network contract worth $400 Million to Nokia. Earlier in August, Bharti had extended its outsourcing contract to Ericsson.

Nokia has merged its network operations with Siemens and incidentally Sunil Bharti Mittal before leaping into mobile services business was manufacturing handsets in India in collabration with Siemens. In an interview to Gita Piramal, Sunil Mittal had said,

It took nearly 10 years for Bharti to lay 10,000 mobile towers and this year alone we will be laying the next 10,000 and within 3 years we will have around 50,000 towers.

[I am not sure when the video was recorded, 2005 or 2006]. It’s a fantastic video on the organic growth of Bharti under Sunil Mittal. In a separate development, Edelweiss Research has upgraded Bharti Airtel Ltd from Accumulate to Buy.

Reliance Communications – Trust BSEIndia or the Press ?

October 30, 2006 · Filed Under Telecom · Comment

Reliance Communications Limited announced its results for the second quarter ended Sept-2006. As reported by the press, it had income of Rs3526 crores and a net profit of 702 crores. However, the Bombay Stock exchange website lists income of Rs2838.6 crores and a net profit of Rs496.52 crores. So who is right and who is wrong ? OR Has the Ambani  carefully manipulated such that both figures are right in their own respect.

Reliance Communications website hasn’t published the results and I wonder how our press draws a comparison between Reliance and Bharti Tele-Ventures Limited ? Sure Ambani needs a lesson on Indian GAAP accounting from Sunil Bharti Mittal :-)

Update: Finally, I obtained a copy of their results and BSE India figures are wrong.

First Dot Com IPO in India

October 30, 2006 · Filed Under Web · Comment

The first Dot Com IPO in India is open for subscription. Info Edge India Limited promoters of leading job portal Naukri.Com is the first Internet company to go for an IPO in India.

Info Edge basically derives upto 90% of their income from Naukri and other job classifieds. Unfortunately, they don’t hold a single patent and it appears to be pure first in the market opportunity it is banking on. I don’t see any exponential organic growth due to pathetic internet penetration in India and BusinessWorld survey estimates mere 35% YoY growth for online job classifieds market. Internet businesses are very dynamic. The rise in social network can kill traditional companies like Naukri.com as someone might develop a clone of adSense, which will push targetted jobs on different social networks depending on their content and job seekers need not go to Naukri.Com at all ?

Investors with high-risk appetite have been told to subscribe to the issue. Also it appears to be issued at very high price-earnings ratio compared to it’s listed peers in midcap software.

BSNL’s Resource Tracking, Mobile Advertisement Services go Live

October 30, 2006 · Filed Under Mobile · Comment

BSNL India

Just a fortnight ago, I had written about BSNL’s Value Added Services – Resource Tracking, Mobile Advertisements and Chatting which were still in their test labs then. All the services are all live now according to a press release by BSNL and will be free for BSNL Cellone user until Dec-31st-2006.  I am not sure what happened to the Dating, which has transformed into Chatting, maybe higher officials and ministry were not prepared to use that term ;-) Unfortunately, I don’t have a CellOne Mobile, if any of you get to use these services, your feedback is appreciated.
